As the Château's archives show, the Domaine de Panéry, near Pouzilhac in the Gard region dates back to 1670. A diverse and polycultural estate from the outset, predominantly given over to wheat and sunflowers, it has been a commercial wine concern since the mid-19th century, now also offering truffles, tourism and horse-breeding and training facilities. Their sturdy, traditionally made Rhône reds proved particularly enticing in an array from the excellent 2007 vintage. A blend of 80% Syrah, the rest Carignan, this warm, spicy red has the floral nuances (violets; rose petals) that characterise both varieties, with ripe, brambly fruit and hints of black pepper. |
