This is a project from Scottish winemaker Pamela Geddes who works at the co-op in Mara. For El Gordito she is able to select fruit from the best vineyards in Calatayud and it is the product of bush vine dry grown Garnacha from a small parcel that was planted in 1937 and of Shiraz that was planted in 2002. Named after her brother Gordon (literally meaning ‘Wee Gordon’ as Pamela might say). Some of the fruit is hand picked, and some machine harvested. Once transferred to the winery, the different varieties are vinified separately. The wine was part matured in tank and part in first and second use barrels. The wine has been minimally treated to preserve its rich ripe fruit. |
